Patti LaBelle performing Labelle’s, “Isn’t It A Shame”

VW

“How did this video get here?!” you ask? Okay look, it was like this:

It’s Video Wednesday. I’m in a silly mood and go looking for a music video that conveys this. I start with Boney M. (More on Boney M later, they must make an appearance on VW.) Boney M’s styling makes me think of Labelle–oh Labelle! Already off genre, though I’ve never been strict about this, I’m now off on a tangent–forget silly, I want to post a video of the serious throw-down that is Labelle’s “Moon Shadow.”*

I am thwarted. The only version I come across is here. First I must say I appreciate Felipe’s efforts, the bit with Cher is pretty good, but not only is there no footage of Labelle performing “Moon Shadow”, this is the EDITED version, which I cannot abide and certainly cannot post. However, in my search I do notice this clip of Patti LaBelle singing a Labelle song that I know to be full of theatrical potential. I am not sure about posting it, but I suspect, know intuitively, that there is something here for me, if I would just be patient… then at running time 3:45, the moment arrives.

Enjoy and happy Wednesday.

* – A version of the Cat Stevens’ song “Moonshadow,” Labelle takes many liberties with it, several minutes worth. I tell you in confidence, all I knew, until I was a full grown adult, was Labelle’s “Moon Shadow.” I hadn’t even heard of Cat Stevens until one day I was having a conversation with someone and said, “Labelle’s ‘Moon Shadow’,” and the listener cocked an eyebrow, looking at me sideways. Even after being schooled and listening to Cat Stevens’ version, if anyone can own anything, I say Labelle took ownership and turned it out.
