Earth, Wind and Fire, “Let Your Feelings Show”
July 5th, 2009 !Well here it is, Sunday. I only dropped in to check on a new version of Wordpress (another saga), when I noticed the words below had been tucked away under Drafts.
This was written a handful of years ago (note the reference to an actual CD) and sent out to nearly everyone on my e-mail list. I must have dug it out of the Sent box to save it for a rainy day. It’s not a rainy day, today, but it is Sunday and why not.
Woke up Sunday morning,
Feeling out of tune.
Wrapped my eyes around you,
Love came in the room.
Baby, gonna let my feelings show,
Everyday, gonna learn to love you more.Try not to hide,
What you feel deep inside.
If you care, you must dare,
To be free as the air.
I woke up this Sunday morning fairly early, ready to greet the day. I started cleaning and in the middle of doing the dishes, I got an urge to hear some music. I went to my CD collection, reaching for Zap Mama “A ma zone”, but instead, picked up a cassette tape ( yes, a cassette tape)-a collection of Earth, Wind and Fire songs. I thought, “Well, I’ll put on a song or two, then listen to Zap Mama.” Wrong. This crisp, windy morning was a morning for uplifting. I pushed PLAY on the cassette deck and out came these lyrics!-lyrics of joy, and love, and hope and faith and light. Out came this music full and taught, rich with horns and bass. I started singing, then dancing, then rejoicing. “I have to share this!”
I turned on the computer (it can be a useful tool). I began this, my Sunday morning sermon. I don’t have much to say on fire and brimstone, no words about sin or redemption. I just want to share these words that touched me this morning, spoke directly to me somehow. The vibration of the soundwaves created by the various instruments and voices combined with the right syllables in time with my spirit this morning… I don’t have the words or orchestra to express how deep and wide I feel at this moment. I only hope that by sharing these words I did find, care of “The Surfer’s Guide to Earth, Wind and Fire Lyrics”, you will get some idea. If these words do not move you towards your own joy, I urge you to take some time today, right now, to find words, music, waves, leaves, clouds, air, earth, wind or fire that will.
